How did we start...
The Koinonia John the Baptist is a Catholic community of consecrated members who live together in poverty, chastity and obedience. They give their lives to the Lord in the spirit of John the Baptist, praying and evangelizing for the salvation of souls. Their global mission is three-fold:
•To inspire the faithful to evangelize, bringing others into the church
•To minister using the charisms and powers of the Holy Spirit
•To create faith-filled Christian communities throughout the world.
The word “koinonia” is the Greek word used in the original gospel to describe the first Christian community. Fr. Ricardo Argañaraz, receiving a powerful calling from the Lord, founded the community in Italy in 1979, which has since spread throughout Europe infusing thousands with a powerful new sense of the Christian faith. It has official church recognition as a private association of the faithful. From Germany to Poland to the Slovak Republics, Fr. Ricardo has started faith-filled communities who evangelize throughout the world!
In addition to the consecrated members, there are over 3,500 external members. These are lay members who don’t take vows, but also dedicate much of their time and energy to evangelizing. They enjoy many of the benefits of the internal members including:
1.Monthly meetings and masses with the consecrated members.
2.Weekly prayer groups (called Houses of Prayer) with other lay members to keep their faith strong and to bring others into a personal relationship with our Lord
3.Intense training in evangelization
4.Fellowship with other believers
5.Knowledge that you are serving God in a meaningful and lasting way!
